The
Survivor - Part One ©08/2004
The
first time I saw him was at a concert in Cadiz.
He
was a little late, but that was not the only reason why he drew all eyes to him.
I
was deeply impressed with his appearance. There he stood in his dark blue
uniform and the white shirt and vest – the long blond hair tied at his neck
– looking for an empty seat. I could not stop watching him – finding his way
through the venue to a place two rows in front of me. Our eyes touched just for
a tiny glance, but it was enough to make me shiver.
Even
when the music started I could not take my eyes off him, his body totally
relaxed and seemed to absorb the music – as if he had been away from this
cultural pleasure a long time.
When
we left the building after the concert, I lost sight of him. All the way to my
hotel his eyes were shining in my mind’s eye. His face and his handsome
stature led me in my dreams, where I found myself in his strong arms.
Early
the next morning I woke up – confused – that was something I had never
experienced before. Almost automatically I packed my luggage and entered the
coach that would bring me to the harbour. The “Danae” was docked in the
harbour – almost ready to start the voyage to Brazil. Captain Hawks bid the
passengers welcome and as soon as the luggage was stowed away in our cabins, we
put out to sea.
When
we had almost left the harbour behind, we passed by a beautiful frigate. And
there he stood – that handsome Captain. Proud, drawn up to full height in his
uniform. His orders seemed to be obeyed even before he shouted them out. For a
moment, my eyes again found his for a tiny glance. He turned his head to his
crew and a very powerful, deep voice gave an order. I gave a last glance to this
impressive man – and we left the harbour of Cadiz and sailed away out of
sight.
I
stayed for a while on deck – looking at the fading landscape. Everywhere I
looked I saw his gentle green eyes ... and thinking of his handsome body caused
a cosy shiver to run through my body.
For
several days our journey went well. The wind was gentle, but we headed forward
quite fast – and every night the Captain accompanied me in my sleep. His eyes
looking at me – his strong arms wrapped around my shoulders – his warm and
deep voice whispering in my ear.
Then
one day the weather changed. The wind became a storm and the waves closed over
the Danae from all sides. It wasn’t the first time for me sailing through
stormy weather – but that storm was the worst I ever experienced. Two masts
broke – one dashed in the water – taking two men with it – the other
crashed on deck. It all went very fast then. The Danae laid herself on her side
and it was clear that she was going to sink. Desperately I was looking for
something that would float. I felt a blow to my head
- and the waves dashed over me...
When
I awoke, I found myself in a little boat. A young midshipman gently asked how I
felt and offered me some bread and water. I tried to sit up and wrapped the
blanket tight round my shoulders. I raised my head and saw a vessel. Somehow I
felt I had seen this before, but the recent incident clouded my mind. My boat
laid aside the ship and a rope ladder and some kind of a rope-seat were dropped.
The young midshipman helped me to sit in that rope-seat, he told me to hold me
tight. Then I was pulled up to the ship’s deck. Two men of the crew helped me
aboard. As soon as I had my feet on deck, the boat rolled and I stumbled.
“Gently
my Lady,” a warm deep voice stirred in my ear and a strong hand held my arm.
When I turned my head towards that voice – I looked directly in the green eyes
that had accompanied me for days. I found my balance – and the Captain took my
hand and raised it to his lips. “Welcome aboard. My name is Aubrey. I am your
servant, my lady.” My knees gave in and again I felt his strong hands holding
me. He looked worriedly at me, then turned to the young midshipman. “Pass the
word for the Doctor.”
“Aye
Sir,” came the reply. He held me tight, I felt his strong arms around me
whilst he took me below decks to his cabin. He gently set me on some kind of
bench that surrounded his cabin then nodded his head and murmured an apology and
left the cabin.
As
soon as the Captain left there came a knock on the door and a small, slim man
with short hair entered the cabin.
“My
lady, my name is Doctor Maturin,” he said with a scratchy but light and gentle
voice. He asked me my name, where I was from, my destination and the name of the
ship I had been on whilst he carefully examined me and treated a wound on my
forehead. He swabbed a tincture to the wound and gave me a tonic to drink. Then
he left and the young midshipman came in with a bundle of clothes.
I
don’t know how much time passed before there came another knock on the door
and Captain Aubrey entered the cabin. There was a little smile in his eyes and
he asked if I was feeling better. I nodded – I could not say a word. Then
suddenly all the tension broke its way through and I shuddered, bursting into
tears. For a moment, Captain Aubrey stood near me, his discomfort obvious. Then
he slowly sat down beside me.
Hesitating,
he laid his arm around my shoulders. Instinctively I put my head to his strong
chest. I heard his heartbeat, felt his breath – and slowly I calmed down. We
sat like that for a while. After I stopped shaking, Captain Aubrey gently
loosened his hold and said “I will have Killick prepare a hammock for you
here.” His warm and deep voice gave me goose bumps. I took a deep breath and
tried to protest, but he just smiled at me which made me almost lose my mind!
“I
will find a place.” He called Killick briskly and after all was prepared, he
left me and I changed clothes. I looked down my dress. It was hanging around me
in pieces. The new clothes seemed to be from that young man who had brought
them, linen pants and a linen shirt. I looked a the hammock when I heard a knock
at the door. “Come in,” I said.
Captain
Aubrey entered. “Is everything to your approval?” That’s when I asked him
how to get in the hammock and he laughed loudly. It was like sunshine! He took a
footstool and helped me up. He made a bow – and left.
The
gentle rolling of the ship helped me falling into a deep, dreamless sleep. I
don’t know how long I slept. The harsh noises of Mops on the upper deck woke
me up. I looked around and needed some time to remember where I was and what had
happened. I carefully slid off the hammock and I saw a bowl with fresh water and
a sponge and washed myself. I found another bundle of clothes, more linen pants
and shirt but this time a vest and jacket had been added. I put on the pants,
shirt and vest. It felt strange, but clean. I heard a knock. Startled, I turned
around, trying to make my hair look better and finally answered the door.
“Good
Morning,” Doctor Maturin said as he entered. It was obvious that he was
relieved to see me up. “Sleep well?”
Embarrassed
I looked down at my new clothes. Maturin smiled. He asked me to sit down and
looked after my wound. “Very good. There may be a thin scar but so far it is
directly at the hair line. No one will ever see it,” he added when he noticed
my worried look. He asked me if I would like something for breakfast. I did feel
hungry and asked for coffee and toast. He smiled. “Tea would be better my
lady.” I smiled back and nodded. He left and came back with a big cup of tea,
toast and butter. When he turned to leave again, I asked him for his company. I
did not want to be alone.
Doctor
Maturin was quiet but I was pleased to have someone beside me. There was no
reason or necessity to talk.
We
had just finished our breakfast when there was another knock at the door.
“Come in,” I said.
Captain
Aubrey entered. “Good morning, my lady, Stephen.” He smiled and his eyes
twinkled. “Good morning, Captain Aubrey” I said as I felt a blush spread
across my face.
“Stephen,
if you permit in your capacity as a doctor – I would like to ask Miss Hansen
to join me on the stern deck.” The blush on my face must have become a dark
red.
Doctor
Maturin looked at Captain Aubrey and replied. “Well, Jack, I think the fresh
air would do her good!” He bowed to me and left the cabin.
Captain
Aubrey looked inquiringly at me. I told him that I would like to join him but
that I had no other clothes. He raised his left eyebrow and a flash showed in
his eyes. “My lady, you look very good in those clothes!” and I do believe
my blush darkened nearly black! I slipped on a pair of shoes I found in the
bundle, took a deep breath and took the Captain’s arm. When we reached the
stern deck, I felt all the men’s eyes on me. I thought,
Hell! Will my face ever get rid of this blush? Captain Aubrey led me
to an armchair. “Take a seat,” he offered, but I refused. I walked to the
bulwark. Breathing deeply, I watched the waves as we left a white wake behind
us. I turned and looked at the Captain. This ship must be something special to
him. I wagered. He looked fondly at the sails and tenderly touched the bulwark.
Then he started to walk the stern from one side to the other and back
repeatedly. I would have loved to join him – but I didn’t know if I would
get far given my delicate condition. But then he turned to me and started to
explain the sails and masts and the entire upper-deck.
During
the following days this walk on the stern deck would become a ritual.
Many
days passed by and I was nearly recovered, getting used to the smooth rolling of
the ship. Then one afternoon, the Captain led me back to the cabin and invited
me to dinner. “I must regret Captain, but I have nothing befitting a dinner
with the Captain to wear!” He smiled in a confusing way. We reached the cabin
and I found ... a dress!
“Mr.
Calamy will bring you to the ward-room for diner.” His warm voice would not
accept further refusals.
“Thank
you, Captain Aubrey,” I finally acquiesced, “it will be my pleasure.” He
lightly bowed his head and left, which was just as well because I needed a rest
to be fresh for dinner. I was very nervous, confused and excited. I looked at
that dress. It was linen, but beautiful and I was glad for it. I refreshed
myself and changed clothes. The dress was clean and had a nice cut. Amazed, I
felt the inside filled with silk, presumably taken from my ruined dress. I did
the best I could with my hair. All too soon there was a knock at the door and I
called out, “Come in!”
Mr.
Calamy stood in the doorstep, a shy “My lady,” and then he offered me his
arm and led me to the ward-room where the dinner had to take place, because I
occupied the Captain’s cabin. There were five men sitting around the table.
Captain Jack and on his left Doctor
Maturin, Lieutenant Tom Pullings, Lieutenant Mowett and Mister Alan, the Sailing
Master. I was seated to the right of the Captain and Mr. Calamy sat down at my
side. The men made compliments to my dress whereupon again I blushed, but yet I
felt very comfortable. The meal was very good as was the conversation. When we
finished dessert and Killick brought the ort in, I thanked the Captain for the
invitation, spoke graciously about the meal and thanked the men for the
conversation. “I enjoyed this dinner very much, thank you. It is time for me
to leave, Sirs.” Under gentle protests from the men I stood up and left.
The
thoughts buzzed about my head and the shortness of my breath made my breasts
heave. This must be a dream!
I
calmed down a bit when someone knocked a the door. I bid them enter and in
walked Captain Aubrey! He went to a cupboard and took out a violin-case ...
“Stephen...er...Doctor
Maturin and I will play some music tonight. We are not as good as the musicians
who played in Cadiz before the Danae left,” for a moment my breath topped and
my heart missed a beat, he saw me! I
tried to keep my emotion down but I did not hear what he said after that. I
noticed him looking, waiting for an answer and realized he had invited me to
listen! With a squeaking voice I accepted his invitation.
I
felt his eyes watching me as I passed him. “You look very pretty,” he
whispered. I hardly kept my wits about me at last rising to my full height to
recover, but then I felt his breath at my neck like a tiny breeze after a warm
summer rain and was done for again.
It
took only a few steps to reach the small room the Captain settled in while I
stayed in his cabin, Doctor Maturin was already waiting for us. I found three
chairs, a bottle of red wine and glasses. I sat down feeling embarrassed about
how much trouble I caused, as Captain Aubrey took his place and they started a
variation of a Mozart piece. Captain Aubrey closed his eyes his face taking on a
tender look. Doctor Maturin concentrated deeply. Their instruments harmonized so
well – as did the men. They played for over a half hour. When they stopped we
had a glass of wine and talked pleasantly. However, the excellent dinner and
wine had made me tired. “Thank you, gentlemen for the lovely music and lively
conversation. But I must bid you good night,” I said, as I stood up. The men
rose from their chairs and I left.
I
needed some time before I was ready to fall asleep. I always heard the Captains
warm voice whispering in my ear and that kept me awake for long moments. I
undressed and washed with that cold water in the bowl. I had just put on the
shirt and was reaching for the linen pants I had worn the night before, when
something made me turn...
I
stepped back in shock. Captain Aubrey stood right in the middle of the cabin! He
looked deep into my eyes and moved slowly towards me. As a kind of reflex I
moved backwards but with one step I stood with my back against the cabin’s
wall. I looked at him, trembling, I could not move.
“Captain
Aubrey,” I whispered. He was standing right in front of me and laid his finger
on my lips.
“Shhh,”
he said softly and blew a lock of hair from my ace. “Jack,” he said in his
deep, growling voice which I could feel directly in my belly. I began breathing
heavily.
A
soft rolling of the ship pressed me close to Jack’s chest. Chuckling, he held
my shoulders and gently pushed ma an arm’s length away. “So you noticed me
in Cadiz?” I asked thinking, what am I
doing? Asking him pointless questions!
Then
he answered. “How could anyone not notice such a beautiful woman?” He paused
briefly, then said, “When I saw you sail away on the Danae I feared I would
never see you again.”
His
hands slid down my shoulders then along my arms and finally took my hands in
his. Tenderly he pulled me closer, his hands moving back to my shoulders. My
hands reached out for the back of his neck and then loosened the ribbon that
held his hair so as to let it fall softly to his shoulders.
He
chuckled again. He stroked my hair and held my face as he dropped a small kiss
to that little wound at my hairline. I closed my eyes and let my hands move down
his neck to his chest. As his left hand slid down my back and held me tight, his
right tipped my chin up to face him. He looked at me inquiringly and I stretched
to my toes to receive his kiss.
His
lips were soft and warm, his kiss so tender. I gently pushed him away from me,
parting my mouth from his and softly bit his ear. My tongue slid from his neck
to that hollow at the base and I began pulling his shirt from his breeches so I
could touch the bare skin under the shirt. Then slowly, my hands moved up his
abdomen to his chest. He lifted his arms and I gently stripped the shirt over
his head, stepping back to look at his strong torso, scars and all. I moved
towards him, my fingers caressing each scar.
When
I touched one big scar across his ribs, he shuddered. I dropped my head and my
lips followed the mark of that scar, making him moan. Softly he stroked my hair,
his hands wandering down to my shoulders and lifting me up. Then slowly his
hands slid over my breasts, opening my shirt. I watched as his eyes followed his
hands, as the opening shirt revealed my body to him. He pushed it down my
shoulders and dropping his hands to my waist, pulled me closer, our hips
touching. I felt his strong thighs through his breeches and I moaned in sudden
awareness of his awakening manhood rising against my belly. My lips kissed his
collarbone and he drew my face to his, dropped his head and kissed me, tenderly
at first, then becoming more and more demanding. I opened my mouth to him and
his kiss stole my breath.
My
hands slid down his torso to his breeches whereupon he slowly loosened his grip
around my waist and reached for my hands, a soft giggle escaping him. When he
lead me to my prize, I tore my mouth from his and my kisses wandered down his
torso while my hands gently stripped off his breeches, sliding down his strong
thighs.
He
groaned when I reached and then teased his hard manhood with my mouth. After
only the barest of moments, he pulled me up his arms moving down to my waist. He
carried me to his map-table, kissing me deeply, demanding more. His hands found
my breasts again, tenderly squeezing them and dropping his head, teasing my
nipples with his tongue and teeth, raising them to almost as hard as his
manhood. His right hand slid around to my shoulders, his left caressed down my
torso and then I felt two fingers sliding into me deeply, moving slowly, testing
if I was ready for him, increasing my lust.
I
groaned in my need. He raised his head and looked into my eyes, tenderly
inquiring. My hips answered his question with their urgent movements. Gently, he
pushed me down onto the table, pulling himself to me and slowly sliding into me.
I wrapped my legs around his waist. With a gentle shift he unexpectedly thrust
deeper into me. Covering my mouth with his, he stopped my cry before it came
out. I groaned in frustration. He pulled up to him. Gently but demandingly, he
thrust his cock even deeper making me gasp.
“Jack!”
I cried out finally. Our bodies moved faster against each other. I groaned, I
could hardly breath! Then finally my body collapsed, reaching my climax in
ecstasy, I hardly was aware of him coming inside me, until I felt him spurt out
his heat deep in me. Again he covered my mouth with his before I could Call out
his name and we both struggled together in release.
When
we at last were able to breathe normally, he carried me to the bench where all
this started. “Johanna,” he whispered, “my little joy. You are so very
good for me,” he spoke softly. I couldn’t speak at all. I looked at him,
confused about his not letting me cry out my joy.
He
smiled. He understood my question without me asking it. “These walls are only
made of wood, Johanna.” He said with a gentle chuckle. My dizzied mind started
to understand and I returned his chuckle.
He
grabbed a sponge and started to wash me softly, as did I to him. When we
redressed, he lifted me into the hammock. After giving me a long and tender kiss
he bid me a good night an whispered, “Sleep well, my little joy,” arching
his brow with a twinkle in his eyes that made me giggle. Then he doused the
lights and left.
My
thoughts swirled around my head. I don’t know how long it was before I finally
fell asleep.
The
next morning I woke up when Killick came in with a bowl with warm water. Though,
I did not let him know I was awake. I needed to think about what happened the
last night.
I
felt hungry and finally slipped off the hammock, washed me and dressed me again
in the linen pants, shirt and vest. When it knocked at the door I bid them
enter.
Jack and Doctor Maturin walked in, “Good morning, my lady” both greeted me. “Sleep well?” Doctor Maturin added.
I welcomed them and replied to Dr Maturin. "Yes, thank you, Doctor." I looked at Jack. He smiled at me with a twinkle in his eyes.
“Do
you want something for breakfast?” I gently asked the two men. As if awaiting
this question, Jack turned his head “Killick there!” He briskly called his
steward. Killick entered with a huge tray full of the good things for a
breakfast on a ship.
