Andy  (by: pioneerwoman ©07/2005)

I don’t have any fairy tales to tell. I’d always kind of bounced around at jobs. Kind of settled into the dishwasher/cook role several times. Should have stuck with it. I answered an ad though, for a restaurant kitchen manager. I got the gig and things were fair dinkum for the first bit. Then someone on the crew started hauling off stuff from the kitchen. Never could catch who was doing it, so the owner decided to pin the blame on me and sacked me for it! He knew it wasn’t me, but he gave me the sack anyway.

I was sitting there on the front steps of the joint, having a smoke and waiting for them to cut my last check when this bloke walked up to me. He looked familiar, but I couldn’t place him. He sat down next to me and lit up a smoke and said, "Are you by any chance Andy Darling?" That kind of gave me the creeps, but I nodded. So, he started telling me how he’s my long lost brother, Terry Thorne, and there’s this great place called Central where all his Brothers can hang out and soon there’d be sheilas there for us. Well, he didn’t really have to say too much more! I was ready to grab my bag and go!

I was enough of a drifter already, I reckoned, why not? And when I got here, a lot of the Brothers were here and some of them were about my age and we got on good and so it didn’t take me long to get settled in.
